Store’s Grand-Reopening Begins Next Chapter of
Walmart/Rolling Meadows Community Partnership
An April 15th grand re-opening celebration at the Rolling Meadows Walmart® – following completion of a four-month, $5.3 million store remodeling program – began a new chapter in the story of this trusted retail partner that has served the community for more than 20 years.
“The keys to this store’s longevity and success are a commitment to great service and an exceptional shopping experience,” explained store manager Nate Bolar. “Staying true to that mission helps us draw customers from across the Chicago metropolitan area. They tell us repeatedly that they prefer coming here, instead of visiting stores that are closer to their homes,” he added.
A More Inviting Shopping Experience
Recently completed store renovations offer both long-time and new customers a brighter, more inviting interior. Features include new flooring and paint, updated signage, and a reconfigured layout to improve overall shopping convenience. There is also a completely new Vision Center that offers a wider selection of high-end frames, and a more expansive grocery operation that caters more effectively to community preferences.
Moreover, the store’s nearly 200 associates underwent training that allows them to implement newer elements of the store’s operations more effectively. Those sessions also reinforced team members’ focus on customer service.
“The best day in a store’s history is always its grand opening. Our team treated the grand re-opening as if it were the store’s second-best day,” Mr. Bolar recalled. “I really appreciated everyone’s dedication. Over the past 20-plus years, this community has come to rely on us. We’re all aligned in our mission to provide the goods and services residents want for the next 20 years.”
Expanding Digital Commerce
In response to changing consumer preferences and shopping practices, the Rolling Meadows Walmart has significantly expanded its ability to serve customers who prefer the convenience of shopping online.
Mr. Bolar says the store now has the capacity to handle four times as many orders per day as it could before the project began.
“An important part of the renovation project involved upgrading our digital business capacity. Online ordering and pick-up have become immensely popular over the past few years. It’s a trend that is definitely here to stay,” he explained.
The store also launched a delivery service in early May, which allows customers to place online orders and receive them that same day through a partnership with DoorDash®.
Feedback gleaned from customer surveys in the weeks following the grand re-opening have confirmed what store leaders expected. Shopper satisfaction has been exceptional.
“Customers seem to really love the improvements we’ve made,” Mr. Bolar recalled. “We feel that will only continue as more people get reacquainted with our store and the services we offer.”
The store’s commitment to service extends well beyond the sale of good and services: Walmart is also a dedicated supporter of programs that enhance Rolling Meadows residents’ quality of life.
The store has backed a variety of public health and safety initiatives – through financial, volunteer, and other means of support – across the City for many years. Perhaps the highest-profile example is Walmart’s sponsorship of the “Shop with a Rolling Meadows Cop” program.
This annual partnership with the Rolling Meadows Police Department provides $3,500 in Walmart gift cards and an in-store shopping spree where children in need may purchase holiday gifts for their families.
More recently, the store hosted an Easter Egg hunt for families served by the Department’s Social Services Division. After talking with Outreach Specialist Natalia Nieves, PhD, and learning more about the Division’s mission and services, Mr. Bolar arranged delivery of 20 Walmart gift cards ($25 each; $500 total) that the Department will be able to provide to community members battling hardship.
“I was telling Nate about a recent situation where our client had fled from an abusive partner, and I had taken her to the store for some essential items that she and her child needed in order to manage for the next few days,” Dr. Nieves recalled. “That story must have really touched Nate’s heart. We are grateful that he and Walmart were willing to take the time to make a difference.”
In addition, the Rolling Meadows store recently provided grant funding to True Guidance, a nonprofit human services agency that announced plans to host an upcoming women’s health program in the City.
Strengthen Connections with Community Leaders
As one of Rolling Meadows’ flagship retail stores, Walmart has always maintained a strong working partnership with City leaders. Those relationships were on full display as the store commenced its multi-million-dollar upgrade.
From initial plan reviews to final inspections, Mr. Bolar credited Rolling Meadows officials and staff members for their efficiency, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
“I’ve been at this store for 18 months and, in my experience, City officials have always been extremely receptive to our ideas and needs,” he explained. “Most recently, they worked seamlessly with our contractor to help keep the store remodeling project on schedule.
“Moving forward, we’re excited to build on those relationships and further strengthen our bonds.”
